a bible story

August 3, 2009

As the unfortunate proprietor of a church Lost & Found (as in, charged to clean it out a few times a year), I have little confidence that a misplaced Bible will ever be restored to the arms of its owner. Today, I have slightly more confidence.

A few weeks ago, a lady named Sharon found someone’s Bible bag in the middle of Highway 21, somewhere in the vicinity of Fairbault, Minnesota. Finding several Bethlehem bulletins inside, she called the church and talked with me. The owner’s name was not written in the Bible, but there was a group photo tucked inside. We decided she should send in the photo so that detective work could commence.

Today I heard that from the photo, folks at the South Site linked the Bible to Andrew somebody, and put him in touch with Sharon so that he and the Bible can be reunited.

How Andrew’s Bible ended up on Highway 21 remains a mystery (at least to me).

While staying in a hotel in Louisanna a few months back I found a Bible wedge behind a table. No name, but a few church bulletins from a church in Florida. I thought of sending it to that church to see if they can get it back to it’s owner. I ‘ve yet to do this – but your bible story might just have encouraged me. Hope it ends as well as yours.

Along with the question of how the Bible ended up there, one might also wonder why Sharon stopped to pick something up off of a highway…

My idea of how the Bible ended up on the highway…after church, helping to put kids in their carseats, plopped the Bible on the top of the van, drove off down the road forgetting all about it, Bible flies off at high speed!
